International

Do you want to make a difference on an International scale?

Do you want meet people from all over the world?

Do you want the opportunity to travel overseas on international aid projects?

These are just a few of the options available to you if you join the Rotaract Club of Bournemouth.

Rotaract is an international organisations with over 7,000 clubs worldwide in more than 162 countries and geographic regions and as such Rotaract Clubs are encouraged to carry out international projects.

These projects do not have to be ground-breaking they include such simple things as supporting the PolioPlus Charity to help eradicate the deadly disease from our planet by raising money for them, to going for an international meal, to communicating with another Rotaract Club somewhere else in the world.

Below outlines some of the international projects we've carried out.

  Rotary Aqua Boxes

This is one of Rotary's greatest projects. The idea is to provide in the wake of both man made and natural disasters a rapid response provision of safe drinking water and welfare aid items.

As a club we have filled approximately 8 boxes with the help of The 76th Bournemouth Brownies and the 7th Day Adventise Church with the help of their Sunshine Toddler Club.

  International Club Twinning with India

It all started with regular email contact in early 2003, exchanging information about each respective club including when we were chartered, number of members and past projects. We also exchanged ideas of future events.

This progressed to completing a joint personal development project. Each club celebrated a festival from the other country. Panvel Central Rotaract celebrated Easter by making Easter Bonnets, Hot Cross Buns and exchanging Easter Eggs, we celebrated the Holi Festival of Colours and enjoyed an Indian meal at one of our meetings as well as learning about the festival and India Culture.

We also borrowed India artefacts such as saris and other items from a local library. Each club had to collate the information and plan the other clubs meeting for them, an excellent Personal Development exercise for members.

This resulted in the production of a Joint Bulletin, professionally printed by Panvel Central Rotaract and posted to us.

We have since produced another joint bulletin about the environment, our club wrote about Poole Harbour and Panvel Central wrote about pollution of water supplies by people throwing rubbish into them.

Once we had completed this it was decided that we would “twin” the two clubs as a form of recognition of the close relationships created. This involved us designing the certificates and Panvel Central printing them. We have since got the certificates signed by the President’s of each club, the Rotaract District Chairman and Rotary District Governors respectively.

First Rotaract International Club Twinning Ever!

We are in constant contact with the club exchanging information and photos of what we get up to.

  Rotaract Overseas Projects   RotaractOverseasProjects

RGBI’s Rotaract Overseas Projects is just one way in which Rotaractors from Great Britain & Ireland make a difference to the world. Since 1995 Rotaractors have travelled to Romania, Tanzania, Ghana, Bulgaria, Malawi and Uganda, in each case doing a similar sort of task: decoration, refurbishment, construction.

The aim of the projects is to promote teamwork and foster good working relationships between Rotarians and Rotaractors by carrying out a worthwhile overseas task satisfying the Rotary ideal of service above self.
